FAQ

-HOW TO USE THE PLATFORM?-

Q. HOW DO I EARN CREDITS? What are they for?

A. You can earn credits by:
     i. completing a simple survey to help us evaluate the our impact (link's on your App!);
    ii. inviting your friends to join this movement to boost efficiency and spread kindness;
iii. taking a request/posting an offer to help someone out!

Credits are the currency we use in exchanging favours on Pay It Forward.

Q. HOW DO I EARN HEARTS? What are they for?

A. Every time you help someone new, you get a heart. Your hearts will keep being accumulated and every week we recognise those with the most hearts (i.e. those who have helped the most people) with prizes and vouchers!

Q. Can i buy credits or hearts with money?

A. Our platform is totally non-monetary, meaning our social currency cannot be purchased with money. The only way one can earn credits or hearts is by participating in this social platform!

Q. WHat are requests and offers?

A. Requests are posts made by users who are in need of help with a certain task.
Offers are posts made by users who volunteer to help with a certain task without you asking!

Everyone is free to post, or take, any requests or offers - we are all about people helping each other out!

Q. can i enquire more about the request/offer before taking it?

A. For sure! You can always message the person who made the request / offer on Pay It Forward before confirming you want to take it.

Q. are my requests or offers anonymous?

A. They are anonymous when being published to "Explore" - people would only know your identity when they message the enquire or confirm they would like to take your listing.

Q. anything i should pay attention to while using pay it forward?

A. Please act in accordance with our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.

And basically, act with respect for one another, be mindful of your language and don't forget to show appreciate for people who have helped you with the chores you've outsourced!:)

-USER SUPPORT-

Q. I've completed the survey, but it is taking a while for the credits to be transferred to my account?

A. Apologies! We promise all credit transfers happen within 10 hours - it usually takes less than an hour during the day, but longer in the evening. So be sure to complete your survey as early as you can so you have credits to use when you need to post a request!

Q. what if my "butler" was nice enough to try help me get what i wanted, only to find out that certain item is out of stock?

A. In this scenario, we encourage you to recognise the kind act done by your "butler" by offering part of the credits in your original offer - our Beta unfortunately does not support this function at the moment, but you can still do so by creating a new request with less credits offered and asking your "butler" to take it immediately to transfer your credits.

Q. what if my "butler" did not deliver what he/she promised?

A. In this case, all the credits will be refunded to your account. We have yet to implement a review system for "butlers", but that will happen in the near future!

Q. what if the REQUESTOR DID NOT SHOW UP FOR THE GROCERIES I BOUGHT for HIM/HER?

A. That's not very nice! But don't worry - tell us what happened by sending an email to info@payitforward.hk. We will attend to it immediately.

-WHAT'S PAY IT FORWARD ABOUT?-

Q. WHY are you only opening this to residents at jcsviii?

A. We are currently working on our Beta, meaning we are still testing the functions of the App and some hypotheses about our platform out. We hope to expand to the rest of HKU in the next academic year, and later other universities (as university students will be our vertical).

You are however welcome to still download our App and play with it regardless of whether you are a resident at JCSVIII! We'd appreciate your feedback.

Q. HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM OTHER CONCIERGE OR DELIVERY SERVICES?

A. To begin with, we are a non-monetary platform - meaning all the services are freely exchanged among users for free. We are the only platform to harness the latent capacity in the mobile population - no additional car or labour employed to deliver the services.

We would however not call ourselves a concierge or delivery service because we are about building a socially thriving community where everyone is empowered to do more with free-flowing altruism.

Q. WHAT DID YOU MEAN By "HARNESSING LATENT CAPACITY OF THE MOBILE POPULATION"?

A. What are commutes? Boring, unavoidable, but are also goldmines of moving latent capacity. Live in Mongkok and heading back to JCSVIII on Monday? Why don't you help that stranger living in another college to buy that game that he's dying to play, yet too occupied to make a trip to Mongkok for?

Grabbing a takeaway on your way back to college? How about helping your neighbour to buy an extra dinner so she does not need to spend extra time hiking up and down?

We want to use this latent capacity of a mobile population to help everyone to save time and money, and the world to save energy.

Q. IS THIS A STUDENT PROJECT?

A. Pay It Forward is founded by four medical students. It is however not an assignment - it is a social innovative startup that we are invested in.

Q. i'm interested in flearning more, who should i contact?

A. Please contact us at info@payitforward.hk - we will get back to you shortly!
